Rose Jones

Dr. Rose Jones oversees the activities of UCI’s Scholarship Opportunities Program, which encourages and supports high-achieving undergraduates and recent alumni in applying for 21 nationally and internationally prestigious, merit-based scholarships. She holds a doctorate from UC Irvine, while her M.A. and B.A. both come from the University of Kansas. Before becoming an Anteater, she was a Research Fellow at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universitaet in Heidelberg, Germany, through a DAAD Research Grant. A strong proponent of higher education, she has taught in multiple departments across the UCI campus. Dr. Jones is also Director of UCI’s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious honor society.

Brendan Park

Park earned his MFA in Creative Writing, Fiction, from UC Irvine in 2014 and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the College of Wooster. He has worked extensively as a lecturer at UCI, teaching all courses in the 39 series, upper-division writing courses and Academic English, and creative writing and craft classes. His rich and varied experience working with students on their writing led him eventually to the Center for Excellence in Writing and Communication, where he began working as a Writing Specialist in 2017 and soon transitioned to the Scholarship Opportunities Program, where he is continually excited to support students in pursuing their dreams. He has served as either primary or secondary advisor for applicants across a wide variety of disciplines, interests, and awards, including a number of winners and finalists.

Theresa Nguyen

Theresa Nguyen brings extensive advising and writing experience to her role as Scholarship Advisor in the Scholarship Opportunities Program. Since 2016, she was an Honors Advisor in UCI’s Campuswide Honors Collegium, of which she herself is an alumna. Before returning to UCI, Theresa was a Writing Center Instructor and a Pre-Health Advisor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison while conducting graduate research on eighteenth-century British poetry and visual culture. As an undergraduate majoring in English with minors in French and History, she participated in the SOP application process for several fellowships, which ultimately led her to the University of Cambridge where she earned a Master’s degree in English Studies. Coming full circle as a SOP Scholarship Advisor, Theresa is excited to work with high-performing Anteaters in achieving their own fellowship ambitions and post-graduation goals.

Aline is a third-year Education Sciences major who aspires to be an elementary teacher and principal. Her passion for working with students is reflected in her commitment as an ASUCI staffer, Viet Student Association president, swim instructor, and tutor. Yousif Alshalah is a fourth-year Economics major and Scholarships Opportunity Program student advisor. He also works as an English communication tutor for the UCI Program in Global Languages and Communication. Yousif hopes to one day impact the U.S economy for the better but is as excited to help students reach their academic goals as well.

Isha is a third-year Cognitive Sciences major, minoring in Public Health. She is also a commissioner for the Student Health and Wellness committee within ASUCI and a board member of a business organization at UCI, Women in Leadership. She loves working with campus organizations to impact change and support students professionally and personally. Nhu (Natalie) Mai

Nhu (Natalie) Mai is a senior studying Psychology and Education Sciences at UC-Irvine. She is also a Freshman Peer Mentor for EDGE Programs at Student Success Initiatives (Division of Undergraduate Education) and a General Assistant at Division of Continuing Education.
As an international student, Natalie has accumulated extensive academic and social advising experiences, with the purpose of encouraging students from different backgrounds and nationalities in fulfilling their ambitious professional goals. As a student advisor at SOP, Natalie strives to put her expertises and insights gained over the years to thoroughly support the incoming Anteaters.
