We have carefully selected the following list of additional scholarships and post-graduation experiences for UCI undergraduates and recent alumni. They do not require campus endorsement or nomination, so please apply directly to these on your own. We wish you success!

Amgen Scholars – Japan Program: supports summer undergraduate research experiences at either Kyoto University or the University of Tokyo in a variety of scientific disciplines. Instruction is in English (Japanese proficiency is not required).

Big Ideas Contest-A UC-wide social innovation challenge. Winners can receive up to $17,500 of funding for their projects. Information sessions are held at UCI’s campus. For more information, contact the UCI Innovation Ambassador Aleeha Kalam at kalama@uci.edu

BMI Foundation Student Awards: A variety of scholarships are offered for music study and composition.

Davis-Putter Scholarship: Need-based grants up to $10,000 to undergraduate or graduate students actively working for peace and justice in the community.

Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics: Full-time undergraduate juniors or seniors may participate in this essay contest; requires a faculty sponsor. Prizes from $500-5,000.

Hellenic Times Scholarship Fund: For undergraduate and graduate students of Greek descent between the ages of 17 and 25.

Humanity in Action Fellowship: Fellows (anywhere from sophomores to recent graduates) have the opportunity to obtain an educational experience that broadens and challenges views on human rights, diversity and active citizenship. Fellows may participate in month-long programs in Amsterdam, Atlanta, Berlin, Copenhagen, Sarajevo, and Warsaw.

Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship: Open to all fields of study at any accredited university in the US or abroad. Meant to enable community college students to transfer to a 4-year institution in order to complete a bachelor’s degree. Award is up to $40,000 per year.

Josephine de Karman Scholarship: $14,000 scholarship for the final year of study for juniors. Special consideration will be given to applicants in the Humanities.

Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship: Awards of $9,000 – 20,000 for advanced study of Fine Arts to enhance professional standing or to finance a special project. Preference for candidates under 25 years.

Mayo Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program: $5,000 research fellowships for undergraduate students dedicated to scientific research alongside professional biomedical scientists.

Microsoft Scholarships: Various scholarships for undergraduate students interested in computer science and related technical disciplines.

Organization of American States Fellowships: A variety of scholarships are offered to citizens of 35 member countries in the Western Hemisphere for full-time study in a different member country.

Open Society Institute Individual Fellowships and Scholarships: Provides support for fellowships, scholarships, and related activities that empower individuals throughout the world to improve the social, political, and intellectual environments of their home communities. Searchable database.

The Public Policy and International Affairs Program: The PPIA prepares students to be competitive for top degree programs in the fields of public policy, public administration, or international affairs. Accepted undergraduates will participate in an intensive, seven-week academic program during the summer before their senior year at Princeton University, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Michigan, University of Minnesota, or UC Berkeley.

Society of Exploration Geophysicists Scholarships: A variety of awards are offered to students in geophysics and related fields such as physics, geology, and earth sciences.

Student Academy Awards: Awards and cash grants offered for student films judged in four categories: Animation, Documentary, Narrative and Alternative. An outstanding student filmmaker from outside the U.S. is honored each year.

Swiss Benevolent Society of New York Scholarships: Merit based awards for study at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels both in the U.S. and abroad. The applicant or one of his or her parents must be a Swiss national.

United Negro College Fund: A variety of scholarships, fellowships, and internships are offered. Eligibility requirements vary.

American-Scandinavian Foundation Scholarships: Support is available for citizens of Scandinavian countries to pursue graduate studies in the United States.

Canon Collins Educational Trust: Opportunities for students from Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, South Africa and Zambia.

Chevening Scholarship Program: Funds a one-year master’s in the United Kingdom for students from 150 countries.

Commonwealth Scholarship: Citizens of Commonwealth countries can apply for support for master’s and doctoral studies in the United Kingdom.

DAAD German Academic Exchange Scholarship: Graduating seniors or those who have received an undergraduate degree may apply for this scholarship for a year of independent study or a full master’s degree program at a German university.

Davis-Putter Scholarship: Need-based grants up to $10,000 to undergraduate or graduate students actively working for peace and justice in the community.

Ertgegun Graduate Scholarship Programme in the Humanities: fully funds graduate programs for approximately 20 students in various humanities disciplines at Oxford University in the United Kingdom.

Ford Foundation Fellowship Programs: Provides pre-PhD funding and post-PhD funding for individuals committed to a teaching and research career and who plan to use their ethnic and racial diversity as a teaching tool. (DACA eligible)

Fulbright Foreign Student Program: Provides grants for one-year research, graduate study, or foreign language teaching experiences.

Hellenic Times Scholarship Fund: For undergraduate and graduate students of Greek descent between the ages of 17 and 25.

Inter American Press Association Scholarship: $20,000 in support of one year of study for young journalists and journalism school graduates from the United States, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

International Rhodes Scholarships: Funds 1 to 3 years of study at Oxford University in the United Kingdom for citizens of Australia, Bermuda, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Jamaica and the Commonwealth Caribbean, Kenya, New Zealand, Pakistan, Southern African nations, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program: For individuals from World Bank member countries to undertake graduate studies at any university located in a
World Bank member country except their own. Suggested fields of study: economics, public administration, finance, planning, health, population, agriculture, infrastructure, information systems and aquatic resources (provided that the focus of study is on public policy aspects of these fields), environment and natural resource management, education, and other development-related subjects.

Knight-Hennessy Scholars: fully funds graduate programs in any discipline at Stanford University to develop a cohort of global leaders who will innovate around challenges such as income inequality, environmental degradation, conflicts, etc. Selection criteria include academic excellence and leadership potential. Requires UCI nomination, separate admission to Stanford graduate program.

Mandela Rhodes Scholarship: Citizens of all African countries may apply to support graduate study at a recognized South African university.

Onassis Foundation Scholarships: For Greek citizens in support of graduate studies in a variety of disciplines.

Organization of American States Fellowships: A variety of scholarships are offered to citizens of 35 member countries in the Western Hemisphere for full-time study in a different member country.

Rotary Peace Fellowships: The Rotary selects individuals to receive fully funded academic fellowships at one of their peace centers. Volunteers will help the Rotary tackle the world’s biggest challenges whilst focusing in on specific causes that will reach the communities most in need.

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Fellowships: A variety of opportunities are offered in different countries and fields of study.

World Bank Scholarships: Currently, the World Bank Scholarships Program offers two sources of funding for graduate studies in development-related fields for mid-career professionals and researchers: the Joint Japan program allows candidates from developing countries and Japan to focus on graduate degrees in development-related fields and the McNamara Fellowship Program enables PhD candidates from developing countries to undertake research at institutions abroad. Fellowships are for 6–10 month periods and can be up to $25,000

Yenching Academy of Peking University: The Yenching Academy, a program integrated within one of China’s leading universities, aims to prepare exceptional international students with the knowledge of China that may help fulfill their potential as global citizens and leaders.

Remote Opportunities for Internships and Volunteering

Parker-Dewey Micro-Internships: Micro-Internships are short-term, paid, professional assignments that are similar to those given to new hires or interns. UCI Division of Career Pathways has partnered with Parker-Dewey to ensure access to remote professional development opportunities.

Idealist.org: Idealist maintains a directory of jobs, volunteer opportunities, organizations and experiences with a focus on serving the greater good. In the search tool, applicants can filter for Virtual/Remote only postings.

Allen Lee Hughes Fellowship & Internship Program: Offers training in theater arts, arts administration, and community outreach to recent graduates.

Center for Strategic and International Studies Internships: Full and part-time internships for undergraduates and recent graduates in public policy.

Charles Koch Institute Fellow Program: Fellows perform research and policy work at thinktanks or nonprofit organizations and receive a stipend of $5,000-6,000.

DAAD Rise Internships: Offers summer research and professional internships in Germany for students in biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, engineering or similar fields.

Echoing Green Foundation Fellowships: Provides seed funding and support to social entrepreneurs as well as innovations to improve outcomes for black males and mitigate climate change.

Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowships: College graduates serve 6 to 9 months with a participating organization in Washington, D.C. and receive a stipend of $2,800 per month. Prior experience with public-interest activism or advocacy is desired.

John Kenneth Galbraith Policy Fellowship Program: For recent college graduates and graduate students. Fellows are selected from a national pool of applicants and must demonstrate strong research/writing skills, community service, a commitment to liberal ideals, and plans for future study or a career in public policy or economics.

Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth: Undergraduates with advanced coursework in creative writing, English literature, or related disciplines may apply for paid teaching assistantships in summer writing workshops for elementary, middle, and high school students. Programs run from late June to early August. Residential and Day Programs are held in California, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Hong Kong.

MacDowell Colony Residencies: 250 fellowships to artists in seven disciplines (architecture, music composition, film and video, interdisciplinary art, theatre, visual art, and literature). Receive room, board, and exclusive use of one of the 32 studios on the property for 2 to 8 weeks.

Nickelodeon Writing Program: Participants write for live action or animated television programs in a salaried position of up to one year.

Samuel Huntington Public Service Fellowship: Stipend of $15,000 for a graduating college senior to pursue public service anywhere in the world. The award allows recipients to engage in a meaningful public service activity for one year before proceeding on to graduate school or a career.

Segerstrom Center for the Arts Internship: Segerstrom Center for the Arts’ internship program offers exciting opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to gain professional experience working side-by-side with administrators, extraordinary artists, and technicians.

Smithsonian Internships: Unless noted otherwise, all Smithsonian internship and fellowship opportunities are open to non-US citizens. Applicants are evaluated on their academic standing, scholarly qualifications, experiences, the quality of the research project or study proposed and its suitability to Smithsonian collections, facilities, and programs.

HENAAC Scholarship: The HENAAC Scholars Program has shown tremendous growth and has distributed over $3,200,000 in educational grants to over 1,200 outstanding and deserving recipients.

Leadership 1000 Scholarship: A scholarship program funded by individuals, foundations or businesses to provide college scholarships to students who will be attending an eligible four-year college or university in Washington state. A Leadership 1000 Scholarship can be customized around a general set of requirements requested by the donor. Scholarships awarded will range from $2,500 to $5,000.

New Leader Scholarship: The New Leader Scholarship of the Marin Community Foundation annually awards scholarships of up to $8,000 which may be renewed. Awardees may receive additional support for graduate school application costs and graduate school tuition.

Nordstrom Scholarship: Nordstrom is excited to award $10,000 scholarships to 80 U.S. and Puerto Rican high school and 10 Canadian secondary school students going to a four-year university. The Nordstrom Scholarship recognizes outstanding students across the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada for their exceptional scholastic achievement and community involvement.

Pre-Health Dreamers: Includes resources and a list of internships for undocumented students interested in pursuing health and science careers.

Strauss Scholarship: A scholarship given to sophomores, juniors, or 4th year seniors who will take a fifth year to graduate at 15 pre-selected 4-year California colleges or universities who have demonstrated an interest in public service, outstanding leadership potential, have developed and can demonstrate effective communication skills, and wish to “make a difference” in local, regional or national communities.
