Uyen Mai – Fulbright Semi-Finalist

Uyen Mai is a Fulbright Semi-Finalist. Uyen is a graduating senior in Public Health Sciences with minors in Philosophy and International Studies and UCI’s current Dalai Lama Scholar. She founded and coordinates a medical humanities journal, The Scribe; humanizes North Korean refugee narratives through a non-profit organization (Liberty in North Korea), and hosts high school and collegiate conferences through Model United Nations. Uyen is involved in various research projects, which include studying the influence of perfluoroalkyl substances on ovarian cancer, vaccine development for the herpes simplex virus, and evaluating family medicine physicians’ responses to COVID-19. As a future physician-scientist, Uyen hopes to work with international humanitarian relief agencies and improve healthcare delivery to refugees and other vulnerable populations.
