Devan Nisson – NSF Honorable Mention

Devan Nisson is a graduating senior with a major in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Devan is a Biological Sciences Peer Tutor for Molecular Biology and works in the public relations division of the Biological Sciences Student Council. She is also an active participant in UCI’s Astronomy Club. She received a UROP grant to complete an independent project researching the adaptive potential of desert microbes to respond to sudden moisture availability, and she is the recipient of the Rose Hills Undergraduate Science and Engineering Scholarship. Devan will pursue a Ph.D. in order to expand her interests in microbial ecology and the study of extremophile microorganisms.
