Kimberly Zhang – Gates/Cambridge Finalist

Kimberly Zhang is a Gates Cambridge Scholarship Finalist and was named a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Honorable Mention. Kimberly is a graduating senior in mathematics and chemistry, a UCI Distinguished Anteater, a UCI Beckman Scholar, and a Campuswide Honors Collegium participant. She dedicated her training to undergraduate research in theoretical and atmospheric chemistry, including advanced computational methods used to predict molecular properties with Professor Filipp Furche, and a joint project with Professor John Hemminger to study the solvation effect on core electron binding energies of carboxylic acids. She was offered a Gates Cambridge Scholarship and also named an honorable mention for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. This Fall, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Kimberly will pursue a Ph.D. in Chemistry and plans to become a research professor.
