Shiraz is a Biological Sciences major and Killam Recipient with an interest in medicine and research. Recently, she was selected as a Finalist for UCI’s Excellence in Research program, regarding her research on conductive protein nanowires in G. Sulfurreducens in the Hochbaum Lab. She has received multiple awards including the Distinguished Research Fellowship and Research Experience Award. She is also Research & Development Chair for UCI’s Student Healthcare in Practice, where leads a research project on healthcare accessibility for underserved communities in Southern California. Alongside her research, she works as a volunteer at Long Beach Miller Hospital. She is one of the founders of “Science Sunday,” a program dedicated to giving patients between the ages 4-18 the opportunity to participate in fun experiments and develop their interest in science. On campus, she is also a biochemistry and biostatistics tutor for the Learning and Academic Resource Center and is also Vice President of Chemistry Club.
