Aaron Chau – Goldwater Honorable Mention

Aaron Chau is a junior with a major in Public Health Sciences. A recipient of the UC Irvine Regents’ Scholarship, Aaron is also involved with UCI’s Ski & Snowboard and Rock Climbing Teams. In his research, Aaron is working with the WellSpace Health nonprofit clinic in Sacramento to investigate and assess breast cancer risks. At UCI, he is working on an interdisciplinary research project with the Department of Physics and Astronomy to develop a custom deep neural network AI to model the complex physical processes that shape dark matter. He will be authoring a paper in Oxford’s Monthly Notices Journal detailing their novel approach to interpreting raw data. Aaron plans to pursue an M.D.-Ph.D. in neurosurgery, so he can help research neuronal pathways in the brain to enable a brain-computer connection and implement new technologies in a clinical setting.
