Uyen Mai – Fulbright Recipient

Uyen is a recent graduate with a B.S. in Public Health Sciences and minors in Philosophy and International Studies. Upon graduation, she received the Chancellor’s Award of Distinction, cum laude honors, Delta Omega Honor Society membership, Honors in Public Health, and Excellence in Writing in Public Health. As the ‘20-’21 recipient of the UCI Dalai Lama Scholarship, she started a volunteering program and intergenerational photo-narrative project. At UCI, she founded and coordinated a medical humanities journal, The Scribe, in addition to her involvement in Healing through Humanities, Liberty in North Korea, and Model United Nations. Her research interests include studying the influence of perfluoroalkyl substances on ovarian cancer, vaccine development for the herpes simplex virus, and evaluating family medicine physicians’ responses to COVID-19. Uyen plans on pursuing an M.D./Ph.D. in Public Health in hopes of improving healthcare quality and delivery to refugees and other vulnerable populations.
